A cosy bakery stop in Bergen
Visited
October 2025

A small bakery café in the heart of Bergen, filled with fresh buns, sourdough, coffee and exactly the kind of cosy atmosphere you hope to find on a rainy Norwegian day.
Why I recommend it
This is one of those places that does not need to be complicated to be good. Fresh baking, good coffee and a warm little space in the middle of Bergen are more than enough. What makes Kardemomme i Marken especially easy to recommend is how approachable it feels. You can stop by for something sweet, have a proper breakfast or lunch, or simply grab a bun and coffee before continuing through the city.
What to do
The name already gives you a hint: start with the baking. Pick whichever bun or pastry looks best that day and add a coffee. If you are more hungry, go for one of their sourdough sandwiches. The menu has plenty of options, so this is another place where I would simply let your mood decide.
Good to know
This is an easy one to fit into a day in Bergen. It is close to both the city centre and the train station, so it works just as well for breakfast as it does for an afternoon coffee stop. And unlike quite a few small Scandinavian cafés, the opening hours are pleasantly generous: they are currently open every day.
