If you care even a little about coffee, Tim Wendelboe should be on your Oslo list. Tim Wendelboe is one of the best-known names in specialty coffee, but the place itself doesn’t feel overly serious or intimidating. It’s the kind of place that can completely change your idea of how different two cups of coffee can taste.
Why I recommend it
Tim Wendelboe isn’t just a good coffee shop — it’s one of those places that shows you how special coffee can actually be. The quality is exceptional, the baristas really know what they’re doing, and the whole experience feels focused without becoming pretentious. Even if you’re only casually interested in coffee, it’s worth going out of your way for. And if you already love specialty coffee, this is simply one of the must-visit stops in Oslo.
What to order
Don’t automatically order your usual coffee here. Ask what they’re currently brewing and let the barista recommend something based on the flavours you normally enjoy. Even better, they offer a tasting! Try two different coffees side by side. It’s one of the best places to really notice how much origin, variety and processing can change what ends up in your cup. And if you find one you love, grab a bag of beans to take home — the coffees served here are roasted by Tim Wendelboe’s own roastery in Oslo.
Good to know
This isn’t really the place to visit for a big breakfast or a long café lunch — the coffee is the reason to come. The space is quite small and intentionally minimal, so don’t expect a huge cosy coffee shop with lots of tables. Instead, treat it almost like a stop at a tiny coffee bar: have one or two exceptional coffees, and maybe even drink it at the nearby park.
