From arancini and cipollina to the best pistachio lasagna I’ve ever had, this tiny locally run spot is one of my must-tries in Ortigia..
Why I recommend it
U’Siciliano is one of those places where the whole experience feels unmistakably Sicilian. The owner is incredibly kind and happily recommends almost anything on the menu and understandably so. Everything is prepared fresh each day, and you can taste the care for the ingredients and the traditions of the island. The restaurant is tucked away in one of Ortigia’s beautiful little streets, which makes the setting just as memorable as the food. Take your time wandering around afterwards too, because this part of the city is full of gorgeous ceramic shops.
What to do
Expect proper Sicilian comfort food, prepared fresh and full of flavour. The menu is the kind where several things sound tempting at once, and the owner will happily talk you through what is especially good that day. My absolute recommendation is the pistachio lasagna, easily the best lasagnas I’ve ever had. Rich, creamy and full of pistachio flavour without becoming too heavy. If it’s available, I wouldn’t leave without trying it.
Good to know
The restaurant sits in one of the prettiest parts of Ortigia, surrounded by narrow streets, old buildings and small independent shops. Seating is quite limited, so it can fill up quickly, especially around lunch. Give yourself some extra time before or after eating to wander around too, because there are several beautiful ceramic shops nearby that are very easy to get distracted by. It’s one of those areas where the surroundings are part of the experience.
